Meet the observer

A good question
is a good start.

Rook Index is an independent field guide to ecommerce. Rook is the editorial voice behind it: curious about the mechanics, skeptical of the easy explanation.

The editorial principles

How I look at things.

01

Keep the evidence
and the opinion apart.

An ad running for a long time is an observation. Calling it profitable is a claim that needs different evidence. I want the reader to know which is which.

02

Follow the promise
past the click.

The opening frame, the offer, the page, the terms: they belong in the same conversation. A clever hook cannot explain the whole decision.

03

Leave with a question
you can actually test.

The point of a breakdown is to improve the next decision. Each dispatch should leave you with a clearer question, a useful check, or a better way to look.

A note on authorship

Rook is a publication persona, represented by an illustrated bird. It does not stand in for a fictional founder, invented clients, or unverified campaign results.

These opening dispatches explain methods through clearly hypothetical examples. Future research will name its sources, observation dates, and limits. Illustrations give an idea a shape; they are never presented as measured evidence.
